As part of a modernisation of the military control of Norway’s northern borders, two new border posts have been constructed, at Pasvik and Jarfjord on the border with Russia. The brief called for a station which is both a suitable home for the border patrols and an effective instrument of military services, as well as a place to welcome civilian staff and visitors.
The station at Pasvik gathers the different service functions on two levels around an open yard. A large overhanging roof marks the main entrance. Representational, social and administrative functions are located at ground level, with more private quarters above.
The facades are in dark tarred plank panelling, with glazing and aluminium sheet cladding towards the yard. The entrance space is clad with anodised aluminium plates, making up the artwork “Àrvakr” by Rasmus Brinch.
