Though the brief for a creative retreat in one of the most dramatically beautiful landscapes in the world seemed like an architect’s dream, the project of building in such a small place with such rough weather conditions posed severe challenges. The task was approached in manageable stages. First, the site was 3D-scanned, to allow for precise adjustments of the buildings to the fragile terrain. The buildings were then designed and located in a collaborative process involving students and volunteers. The series of monofunctional buildings from the concert room to the sleeping modules, are built with a minimum of material waste, and raised on point foundations or steel columns to protect the natural ground.
